Green coffee beans and Fenugreek seeds are rich in natural trigonelline (TRG), chlorogenic acid (CGA) and other nutrients.

TRG and CGA have been extensively studied and have shown beneficial effects on skin health (Nguyen 2024).

TRG reduces skin photodamage induced by ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation. TRG prevents UV-B-induced collagen degradation and lipid peroxidation. TRG prevents UVB-induced cell apoptosis in human skin cells via reducing oxidative stress, restoring Ca²⁺ homeostasis, re-establishing the endoplasmic reticulum function, and preventing the apoptotic process. TRG also exhibits anti-melanogenic effects by inhibiting tyrosinase via competitive binding to its active site.

CGA inhibits photoaging induced by ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation through its anti-inflammatory and antiaging effects by inhibiting UVA-activated signaling, decreasing ROS, pro-inflammatory factors, reducing apoptosis and necrosis, attenuating DNA damage, promoting cell repair, and increasing synthesis of collagens in skin cells. CGA promotes skin flap survival, restores the epidermal skin barrier, attenuates acne, relieves systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-like skin lesions, and facilitates skin wound healing. CGA is a potential anti-hyperpigmentation agent with its metabolites and caffeic acid derivatives inhibiting melanocyte-stimulating hormone-induced melanogenesis through tyrosinase activity suppression.
